My Favorite Study Bible

It’s the time for New Year’s resolutions. Well, it’s January 8, so it’s probably time to begin to break the resolutions. Either way, I hope you are doing well.

Perhaps you made a resolution to read the Bible more in 2018. If so, I would like to recommend the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible (CBSB). I bought it last year. It was love at first sight. It is (by far) my favorite study Bible. In a digital age where thousands of volumes of encyclopedic information are seemingly at my fingertips through my phone, I am surprised that I have fallen in love with this resource.

The notes stay true to empirical data and avoid the ‘preachy’, predetermined,  and presumptive dogma that plagues many study Bibles.

I think the CBSB’s strength lies in the fact that the only time I would want to know the information in the notes is when I reading the accompanying passage. It brings the Bible’s stories and teachings to life by adding information and context that the original audience would have known intuitively.

You need to get this one. But don’t take my word for it. Read more here and here.
